TMS Girl Scouts Create & Donate Step Stools to DeGrazia Preschool & Kinder Classes!

Amelia Lochridge and Leya McGruder, eighth grade students from Tortolita Middle School, completed a Girl Scouts community service project for DeGrazia Elementary preschoolers and kindergarteners, designing, assembling, and donating eight step stools to provide an extra lift at the water fountain and bathroom sinks. The Girl Scouts visited their former elementary school last week and presented the stools, painted bright red and adorned with DeGrazia’s mission, “Love. Learn. Lead.,” to the preschool and kindergarten classes during a special assembly.
For the project, the girls had to identify a Sustainable activity for their community. They had heard about a similar project completed by Boy Scouts in Vail, and used it as a blueprint to get started. The girls worked with the local Home Depot on Thornydale Road to acquire the materials needed, and over the last six months worked hard to complete the assembly, finishing, and painting. Amelia and Leya will also receive a Silver Award from the Girls Scouts for this project.
MUSD and DeGrazia Elementary extend a heartfelt thanks to Amelia and Leya for their gift to the school! Thank you for your leadership - we are #MUSDproud!
